The Chinese Society of Image and Graphics has announced the winners of the 13th “Longtu Cup” National BIM Competition.
Shenzhen Water Technologies' entry, “Intelligent Application of BIM in Design and Operation of Shenzhen Donghu Water Plant”, stood out among many entries and won the Third Prize in the Comprehensive Group.
🎉🎉🎉
This competition, guided by the Chinese Society of Image and Graphics, the China Association for Science and Technology, the China Academy of Building Research, Tsinghua University, Beihang University, etc., had 2,499 entries across five categories: design, construction, comprehensive, the Belt and Road, and institutions. It aims to promote the extensive use of BIM technology in China's construction industry and is one of the largest BIM competitions in the country with significant industry influence.
BIM Helps Optimize Design
BIM technology helps build a 3D digital water - plant model, visually presenting the layout of pipelines, equipment, and maintenance space in the limited project area. During the project, BIM allows the Donghu Smart Water Plant team to conduct in - depth design and instant optimization of the plant's structure, pipelines, and equipment in a virtual environment.
The project team used BIM, process fluid analysis, and 3D structural force analysis to improve the pool design of Donghu Water Plant, enhancing performance and aesthetics. BIM's clash detection feature also minimized errors in multi - professional drawings, ensuring precise and detailed designs.
BIM Solves Construction Challenges
Donghu Smart Water Plant's team used BIM visualization to optimize the water intake project, address demolition challenges with BIM, 3D scanning, and pipeline detection, and simulate construction plans to determine the right sequence, effectively resolving pipeline blocking issues.
Meanwhile, in the face of limited site space and complex overlapping work surfaces, the project team innovatively used BIM + AR technology for equipment acceptance and installation, effectively boosting construction efficiency.
BIM Boosts Operational Efficiency
Shenzhen Water Technologies leveraged extensive historical data from design and construction to break down system silos, ensuring a smooth transition of project outcomes into the operational phase. Through a BIM - based 3D integrated management platform and digital twin technology, Donghu Water Plant achieved full visibility, control, and manageability across all operational aspects, including production, equipment, environment, and personnel activities.
During actual operations, Donghu Water Plant uses BIM and digital twin scenario simulation technologies. It automatically collects and processes production data, and uses 3D visualization to precisely reflect operational energy consumption. It also auto - generates reports to help operational staff promptly take effective energy - saving measures, achieving simultaneous energy conservation and efficiency in the water plant.
From design and construction to operation, Donghu Water Plant uses BIM technology to overcome engineering barriers and bring new energy to smart water plant projects. In the future, Shenzhen Water Technologies will keep studying the deep integration of BIM and digital twin technologies. It will stick to innovation - driven development and use technology to empower, helping the water sector achieve high - quality intelligent development!
